zambia-sata-bus-accident-traffic-rtsaThe police traffic department has recorded 203 road accidents in which 17 lives were lost during the Easter weekend.
Police spokesperson Elizabeth said Lusaka recorded the highest number of accidents at 111.

“In Lusaka 111 traffic accidents were recorded were four people died while Northern Province was the lowest with two road traffic accidents and no one died.”

“We can therefore conclude that there has been an increase in both the number of accidents and lives lost this year compared to last Easter Holiday when we recorded 112 accidents with four lives lost.”

“The increase of accidents could be attributed to the fact that there has been an increase in the number of vehicles on the road compared to last year. Also that being holiday unlike any other days people turn to have time to drive around and also want to visit different places as they are not in offices.”

She said some motorists were driving while drinking alcohol.

“Other cases reported were: ten cases of murder of which two are those involving spouses while the other five involve people that are related or friends. The other three cases were committed by unknown people and investigations are on.”

“Two cases of defilement have been reported and one rape case during the Easter Weekend.

“Close to 100 Assault cases where reported country wide of which most of them are by known people,” she said.
