Opinion: Fred M’membe and Consistency

Fred-M’membeFred M’membe yesterday procured a comment from one of his usual ‘sources’ condemning our party president Hakainde Hichilema over his (HH) ‘change’ of stance on Rupiah Banda.

First and foremost we are not surprised because we know Fred M’membe as a self confessed PF supporter and he will therefore always hunt for opportunities to finish off his party’s opponents.

It is just about a week ago when M’membe and The Post were exposed by Chief Nalubamba for trying to use the Chief to hurt UPND. This is what Mmembe does, twisting people’s comments to further his agendas. His biggest victim in this regard is his aging and needy auntie Inonge Wina.

We know that M’membe literally writes statements for Mrs Wina to read. What is going on at Bwinjimfumu is not journalism but pure propaganda!

M’membe is trying to foster a debate that HH has changed his position over the issue of RB. We challenge anyone out there who has evidence of HH advocating for the removal of RB’s immunity before and after the 2011 elections to come forth with that evidence.

Yes, HH commented on things like the sell of Zamtel which process is well documented. But is this what Wynter Kabimba took to parliament? Has RB been arrested over Zamtel?

HH has never been against the removal of RB’s immunity neither is the UPND. What we are talking about is doing things in the proper and right way. This particular motion was taken to parliament in the afternoon on the very last day of that session of parliament.

What time did the MPs have to study it? There was an injunction that had been obtained against the motion but this just waved aside in the PF’s usual disregard for the Judiciary.

What PF have done is basically build firm grounds for RB to challenge the lifting of his immunity. What will happen if RB wins this case against the State and demands for compensation?

Zambians will pay with the same money that should have been used on schools, hospitals, clean water etc. We have seen this already in the case of tujilijili where a minister just woke up and declared that she had banned tujilijili. The bill to the Zambian tax payers is USD500,000.

M’membe and his fellow PF cadres are condemning HH for being seen with RB. Everyone knows that RB is just an accussed person until he is proven guilty. But even if he was convicted, would he stop being a human being? When M’membe was convicted over a contempt of court case, one of the few people to visit him at Chimbokaila was HH. Was that wrong?

Let us now talk about consistency. Are the people that M’membe support consistent in anyway. When President Sata first assumed office, he raised a number of issues against RB including the ‘gold scam’, the presidential Lexus motor vehicles, K3 trillion ‘fake money’, etc.

This did not stop President Sata from sending RB to go and represent Zambia at the 2012 AFCON finals. Later they came and danced ‘donchi kubeba’ together at state house. Should we also talk about 90 days, more money, the constitution, the Barotseland Agreement, electricity to Chongwe, etc? We heard the voices of some of these people, in 2011, advocating for certain things.

M’membe himself is far from being consistent. At one point Levy Mwanawasa was a cabbage, a fool and a stupid person. Later he became an angel. Sata was a ‘foolish old man who could do anything to be president’. Today he is saint Michael.

The Zambian people know who is inconsistent.
