Kabimba’s Stubborn Stance on Constitution

KabimbaGovernment has made known its desire to drag the Constitution making process by rejecting the 12 months referendum roadmap recommended by the National Constitution Convention with justice minister Wynter Kabimba describing it as wishful.

Justice Minister Wynter Kabimba said the NCC, which adopted various clauses the Patriotic Front government has publicly expressed opposition to, went beyond its mandate by also setting the roadmap.

Kabimba, who himself has opposed the presidential running mate clause by coining the phrase ‘a vice president is only a chola boy’, said it was unfortunate that the NCC plainly put up that resolution.

“That is very unfortunate because they exceeded their mandate. It was way beyond their terms of reference,” said Mr Kabimba.

Zambia’s previous attempts at constitutionalism have been frustrated by political meddling and indications are not any different under the PF who had promised to deliver a people driven constitution within 90 days of assuming office.

Now well over 90 days in office, President Sata and his surrogates are opposition such clauses as the 50+1 presidential vote threshold something they wholly embraced and promised to honour when they assume office.
