The office of fourth president Rupiah Banda has distanced itself from assertions that the former head of state might make a political comeback and run for the presidency again.
This follows assertions by National Restoration Party – NAREP- president Elias Chipimo that the Patriotic Front government may have trumped up charges against the former head of state in order to completely rule him out for any possible running for the presidency.
President Banda’s Administrative Assistant Mitakazo Wakumelo said his office will not respond to such innuendos.
He says Banda made his position clear when he retired from active politics.
Banda who served three year of late President Levy Mwanawasa’s final 5-year term is still eligible to run for the presidency.
