Defence Minister Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba commonly known as GBM confirmed the fragile relationship between Zambia and Angola when he claimed the bad blood between the two nations is just a rumour.
Mwamba, who is in Angola to sign a military Pact, said a lot had been said about the two countries’s relationship.
Upon assumption of power President Michael Sata sent First Replican President Dr Kenneth Kaunda to Angola with a conciliatory message to the Dos Santos government.
“There are a lot of rumours about the relationship between Zambia and Angola but the fact that we are signing this accord shows we are one,” said Mwamba.
At the height of the Angola war the Zambian government was allegedly aiding rebels for diamonds a move that almost led to war between the neighbouring countries.
Meanwhile, the Angolan press reports that Mwamba on Friday visited the command of the Angolan Navy (MGA), where he received military honors, under his three-day working visit to Luanda to strengthening cooperation.
The Zambian minister was accompanied by the Angolan counterpart, Cândido Pereira Van-dúnem.
During the visit, the delegation from the neighboring country learned about the organization, operation, mission and history of the Navy and the Marines brigade.
During the stay in the Republic of Angola, the delegations of the two countries held official talks, which were discussed in addition to other issues, strategies for meeting a joint program of defense and security, to consolidate stability.
