Former Finance Minister Ng’andu Magande has condemned the dissolution of the Mark Chona led Zambia Railways Board without hearing out both parties.
And MMD chairman for economic affairs Situmbeko Musokotwane says government had given an impression that Professor Clive Chirwa was untouchable.
Magande said government hurried the process of dissolving the board before getting to the root of the matter.
“Government was wrong to dissolve the board without getting to the bottom of the matter,” he said.
And Musokotwane said Pro Chirwa would not respect any board given the precedent set.
“The impression created is that he is untouchable because with the serious issues raised against him it is strange that the powers that be are siding with,” he said.
Government unilaterally dissolved the ZRL board on the instigation of Prof Chirwa who accused the board of demanding K500 sitting allowances.
However it has emerged that the board resisted his K248 million monthly salary demand and his wanting to shift the headquarters to Lusaka from Kabwe as well as awarding a contract to his company without following procedure.
Reports, however, unconfirmed are circulating that Prof Chirwa has been fired for embarrassing President Michael Sata who plucked him out of England to serve the company.
