The Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) has announced their candidate for the upcoming parliamentary by-election to be held in Feira slated for June 20.
Elias Changachepe Phiri, who is the MMD’s current Provincial Youth Secretary in Luangwa District, shall be running on the MMD ticket.
According to a press release from Kenneth Chipungu, the Chairman of the Elections Committee of the MMD, the party is “pleased to announce to the nation that after extensive consultations with all stakeholders and our local leadership in the Feira constituency, the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the MMD has resolved to adopt the above-named as MMD candidate.”
Chipungu continued: ”We are convinced that he is politically mature and will propound the new hope for Zambia doctrine to the best advantage of the electorate.”
The Feira by-election was triggered by the decision by sitting lawmaker Patrick Ngoma to quit the MMD and join the Patriotic Front (PF), who will now run on the ruling party ticket.
