The University of Zambia students have vowed to continue with riots if management does not rescind its decision to increase fees for bursary forms from KR10 to KR50.
On Monday night the students staged a protest that saw the police seal off parts of Great East Road fearing that students would stone vehicles.
The students, who set fire to brush piles in the middle of the road, chanted anti-government slogans saying the PF government had resorted to increasing the price for everything.
“The prices for mealie are up, fuel is up, bus fares are up and now even us poor students have to suffer a direct increase through this ill thought increase,” said Kelvin Sampa, a third year student.
“We are now wondering whether this government really cares for us last time we struggled to get our allowances and now this honestly things are getting out of hand.”
He said, “Now they have brought this whole battalion of police when all we are asking is a legitimate call for help.”
