President Michael Sata is planning to sacrifice his nephew Miles Sampa at the Ministry of Finance where the Matero member of parliament is deputy minister to pacify a feud with his senior Alexander Chikwanda and permanent secretary Felix Nkulukusa.
There is a battle for kickbacks at the Ministry of Finance between Sampa and Nkulukusa. Sampa has also been manouvering to have Finance minister Chikwanda removed so that he takes over.
But sources say President Sata has received adequate briefing on the matter and he plans to remove Sampa in a mini-cabinet re-shuffle that will be announced soon.
The sources have told Zambia Reports that Sampa will be replaced by commerce deputy minister Keith Mukata. Mukata is a Lusaka-based lawyer who is also MP for Chilanga. He is one of the many MMD MPs that betrayed their party and constituency to form an alliance with the Patriotic Front.
Further changes, according to sources, will be effected by President Sata who is likely to move agriculture minister Bob Sichinga back to the Ministry of Commerce in the same capacity to replace Emmanuel Chenda whom he will swap with.
President Sata has also recalled Frederick Hapunda, Zambia’s ambassador to Russia and Francis Simenda from Ethiopia. Both Hapunda and Simenda were opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) members and President Sata is under pressure to send his loyal cadres into diplomatic service.
