sata-chikopa-zambia-reportsMalawian judge Lovemore Chikopa today made an appearance at government complex where his office is housed as he sets the ground for the President Michael Sata’s tribunal that is set to hear the case of the three suspended judges.

The three suspended judges include Supreme Court’s Phillip Musonda, High Court’s Charles Kajimanga and Nigel Mutuna.

Chikopa met the lawyers for both sides that had Attorney General Mumba Malila on the government side and Milner Katolo, Sakwiba Sikota, Erick Silwamba, and Lubinda Linyama for the defence.

The Malawian judge who has spent almost a year in the country at the Zambian tax payers’ expense will finally set to work after the Supreme Court granted President Sata his wish to bring the three judges before a tribunal constituted by him.

On Monday four out of seven Supreme Court judges ruled that the tribunal that the suspended judges had contested should go on.

High Court Judge Fulgence Chisanga had granted leave to the judges to seek judicial review but acting Chief Justice Chibesakunda and co overturned the decision. The judges were suspended for alleged professional misconduct after finding President Sata’s allies, Fred M’membe and Mutembo Nchito, guilty of defaulting over K18 billion Development Bank of Zambia debt.
