Ruling Patriotic Front (PF) national youth chairman Chishimba Kambwili has now said George Mpombo is like a housefly on the political scene after calling popular Catholic priest Father Frank Bwalya mad.
This is after both Mpombo and Fr Bwalya turned against the PF and President Michael Sata whom they vigorously supported during the 2011 elections.
According to the PF aligned Post Newspaper, Kambwili, who is Roan PF member of parliament, described Mpombo’s declaration to run as president in the 2016 as the biggest joke of the year.
“It seems people want to take politics like a kindergarten, surely, between you and me, can you imagine Mpombo saying he wants to be president of Zambia? Can you imagine that? Some of these things can only be described as the biggest joke of the year. It is a joke! How is he going to run for president? On what platform and which party?” asked Kambwili, who is also PF national youth chairman.
Kambwili said Mpombo had no capacity to form a party that would stand in 2016 and even end up winning the elections.
“When you do things through bitterness, you end up making so many mistakes. Mr Mpombo is just bitter because he has been recalled but you must know that as a diplomat, you cannot continue serving while you are answering criminal charges. So, what I can urge Mpombo is just to be quiet and wait for the due process of the law to finish his court cases and then he can decide the way forward. But I think by and large, he is being unfair to himself and to the nation,” he said.
Kambwili wondered why Mpombo waited to be recalled before he could start condemning the PF.
“He was part of the PF government through his diplomatic job. Why didn’t he say that things are bad in PF before he was recalled? Now, today he wants to say we are making mistakes because he has been recalled, those are sour grapes. And I think we will not waste our time on Mpombo’s political ambition,” he said.
