Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) youth coordinator Bowman Lusambo has said he is not shaken by a recent violent attack against him by a PF militia, reinstating that his spirits are high after being captured and harassed Patrotic Front (PF) youth Militia who were being led by Lusaka province youth chairman Kennedy Kamba.

Lusamabo has also called for civility in Zambian politics as well as the need for local politicians to embrace dialogue in the manner they conduct their political affairs.

Speaking in Lusaka, Lusambo said PF youths were carrying offensive and deadly weapons, which were being used to attack innocent and defenceless people.

“These people need to be stopped from harassing innocent and defenceless people. They captured me and I was defeated just at that time, but I am out here now and the struggle to liberate the people from the PF bond continues. The PF youths are carrying weapons and it is not good for this country and the democracy we fought for hard to bring,” he said.

He said the PF youths would turn Zambia into a war zone if the current situation was not stopped because the ruling party cadres were doing illegal things arbitrarily.

Last week, Lusambo and MMD party president Nevers Mumba and other youths were attacked by PF youths at Lusaka’s City Market when the team attempted to drive on public transport to Kanyama, one of Lusaka’s shanty regions were poverty and squalor are widespread.

On the material day, the MMD team wanted to go and engage the people of Kanyama on the removal of subsidies for fuel and maize, but the PF militia intercepted them.

In the process, Lusambo was arrested and detained by the PF gang, which forced him to issue a public apology to President Michael and all PF supporters for being critical to the government. According to eye witnesses, the PF youths pointed a gun and other sharp objects at Lusambo when he was forced to apologise to the party.

But in response, Lusambo has said the Zambians must expect more violence from the PF youths because their activities did not mean well for the country.

“I am still here and we shall continue to fight and speak for the people and this s what the PF don’t want us to be doing. What kind of democracy is that,” he said.

Lusambo said MMD youth did not carry weapons but they use the power of the voice to speak out on the government inadequacies.

“There is need to disarm the PF youths. The thought they will silence me, but here I am. I was only defeated that time I was held in captivity. There is need for civility in our politics and not violence. Zambia is bigger than all of us and each of these political parties and this is why we must recognise the efforts and roles of each other in what we do, irrespective of the party one belongs to,” he said.

He said young people from various political parties must refrain from violence but engage each other in a civil way because that was the only way Zambia would continue experiencing peace and stability.

“I look forward to a day when we the youths from the political parties be it in the opposition or ruling party can come together and engage each other peacefully, instead of what the PF are doing,” he said.

But PF Lusaka province youth chairman Kennedy Kamba said his party would not tolerate anyone opposing the ruling party.

He said t was the responsibility of the PF youths to bring peace and order among the political parties because the opposition were merely opposing any decision of the government.

Kamba said the PF youths were not violent because they did not harm Bowman Lusambo after he was captured.
