After weeks of unexplained delays, the Zambia Police Service has finally opened a Docket against some Patriotic Front cadres who kidnapped and violently attacked Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) Die Hard Youth Coordinator Bowman Lusambo.
A source tells Zambia Reports that the police have been placed under extreme pressure from senior Patriotic Front (PF) officials and Intelligence Officers, who demanded that no investigation take place.
A senior Police officer who declined to be named for fear of victimization told Zambia Reports that a docket has been opened against PF Lusaka Province Youth Chairperson Kennedy Kamba for assault and kidnapping.
“We have reluctantly opened a docket against Mr. Kennedy Kamba though under extreme pressure because some people do not want us to arrest Mr. Kamba” the source said.
The source said it was difficult to shield Mr. Kamba from prosecution because a lot of people heard him on Radio Phoenix announcing the kidnap of Mr. Lusambo.
“It is very difficult to shield him because he personally called Radio Phoenix to say they had abducted Mr.Lusambo so how do we shield him with such evidence” the source asked.
It is not however clear whether the Director of Public Prosecution Mutembo Nchito himself a PF cadre will give a go ahead as prosecutions in Zambia have to be authorized by the DPP.
The attack against Mr Lusambo took place in the Kanyama Compound in Lusaka on May 22nd. He was accompanied by a journalist from Joy FM at the time, who was chased off by the armed men. Media reports of a special new ‘trained militia‘ operating as the security wing of the PF under the direction of party Secretary General Wynter Kabimba were blamed for the attack.
The attached medical report of Lusambo’s injuries accepted and signed by the police confirm “soft tissue injury” resulting from the assault.
