Police this morning in Kitwe had to fire tear gas at fans who were seeking to buy tickets for Saturday’s Brazil 2014 World Cup qualifier against Sudan.
Fans who had waited all morning to buy tickets got impatient when they were told that tickets had run out while those already inside had raised issue with being told to buy only two tickets.
According to bolazambia.com, the chaos that resulted led to the shut down of business as the attendees told fans that ticket sale will only resume the following days.
Ticketing is proving a sticky point as FAZ has only commissioned one vendor in the Zambia Postal Services, with illegal bulk buying and hoarding of tickets being the driver of the ticket racket.
While a public line has been peddled that only two tickets will be sold per person hardly a handful of fans may have purchased the hotly pursued K20 and K50 tickets before they are told that they have run out.
At Ndola Main Post Office things blew out of hand when fans were told that tickets had run out after they had waited all morning for their turn to buy tickets.
The angry fans wrestled the the police officers who held firm and locked the door and waited for the situation to calm down.
There were were underground manouvres to buy tickets as money was slid through a pigeon hole to police officers locked in to bring the tickets.
By 11:00 hours Ndola Post Office had stopped selling tickets and opened for regular business that had been disrupted all morning.
The situation was not any different at Kansenshi Post Office where fans were also awaiting to be attended as the service was done spontaneously where once a few fans were sneaked in the entrance was sealed off.
