Patrick MuchelekaLubansenshi Independent Member of Parliament Patrick Mcheleka has complained of harassment by state agents during his tour of his constituency.

Mcheleka, whose critique of the PF government has not sat well with President Michael Sata’s agents, said the police attempted to arrest him on unclear charges while teachers at the schools he visited were being harassed by police.

Mcheleka said so far he had been inundated by calls from teachers in his area who were being victimized on account that they were suspected of being his sympathizers.

“There is an emerging culture of harassment of people deemed not to be in league with the ruling party. In my constituency I am being victimized and police attempted to arrest me on flimsy charges. Now they are going everywhere trying to intimidate teachers at the schools in my constituency where I visited,” he said.

Harassment and arrest of opposition MPs is rife under the Michael Sata regime with Alliance for a Better Zambia President Fr Frank Bwalya today being harrassed with opaque beer poured on him.

Leading opposition leaders Nevers Mumba od the MMD and UPND’s Hakainde Hichilema have saved time in police custody for various charges they have publicly condemned as politically motivated.
