Following the controversial slaying of two land protesters in Kampasa near Kenneth Kaunda International Airport in Lusaka on Friday, members of Zambia’s ruling Patriotic Front launched a violent attack against mourners, including opposition leader Hakainde Hichilema, William Banda, and other members of the United Party for National Development (UPND). The mourners were attending services at a funeral house for one of the victims of Friday’s shootings by officers of the Zambia National Service.
The PF cadres were led by the sitting Minister of Tourism and Chongwe Member of Parliament Sylvia Masebo, who is also alleged to have ordered the ZNS officers to clear the illegal settlements on the Kampasa land, and is also alleged to hold an ownership stake in a development transaction in the same area.
