Opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) deputy general secretary Kachunga Simusamba says they are used to the ruling Patriotic Front blaming every lapse in public peace to the opposition party.
Simusamba said he was not surprised that the PF had accused the UPND of organizating bus drivers to demonstrate against the Road Traffic and Safety Agency.
“We are used with the PF accusing us of engineering any misfortune that befall them now they are saying we have caused the bus drivers to riot,” he said.
“We support demonstrations as a means of demanding to be heard although that does not mean any demonstration that happens is a UPND demonstration.”
He said the party had only offered to represent bus drivers that he said were being arrested without a hearing at the courts of law.
“We have only offered to give them legal representation because we learnt that at times they were taken to court and jailed without even being allowed to say anything,” he said.
Riots broke out in some parts of Lusaka yesterday when bus drivers staged a sit in paralysing the transport sector in the country.
