Musa MwenyeSolicitor General Musa Mwenye has reacted to the K1.4 billion European Union fund that PF cadres have shared denying some of the original beneficiaries in the Market Development Committee who spearheaded the construction of the New Soweto Market.

Mwenye said this in a letter replying to a call for a meeting that was suggested by the 38 Market Development committee members in order to iron out the discrepancies in the payment.

In a letter under a file number MOJ/102/38/77/13, Mwenye informed the 38 members of the Market Development Committee that their matter has been assigned to a Mr James Mutaliro and Mrs Kombe who is a chief state advocate.

Mwenye was responding to letter authored by the 30 members of Market Development Committee members through their lawyer Rabson Malipenga.

Malipenga stated that his clients, who are marketers, had not received from the Attorney General on their request for a meeting to resolve their issues regarding the nonpayment of their dues.

“We would like to have a meeting with your good selves and ourselves,” he has written.

The PF cadres at New Soweto Market have shared over K1.4 billion meant for the market development committee members that spearheaded the construction of the new market by the European Union (EU).

According to sources, the EU had allocated the money to pay people that were working on the market construction including the committee members that were surpervising and mobilizing the work.

The K1.4 billion was meant to be paid to the Market Development Committee (MDC) members and those that were temporarily employed during the project.

However, in December last year, the PF through Local Government Minister Emerine Kabanshi decided to give the money to their cadres some of whom did not even play a role in the construction of New Soweto Market.

The cadres were paid through the Soweto branch of Investruct Bank PLC and the cadres have since been bragging to those that were omitted from the payment schedule on suspicion that they belonged to the opposition despite being contracted to the project.
