The parliamentary select committee has grilled education permanent secretary Chishimba Nkosha for failing to properly explain why the Copperbelt University offered land as collateral for an overdraft from Zanaco.
This is when Nkosha appeared before the committee regarding the irregularities that the Auditor General’s report revealed in the ministry.
The Copperbelt University is reported to have been in a desperate situation and they decided to offer part of their land as collateral to pay worker’s salaries.
The move was attributed to poor funding from the government. Nkosha later apologised saying the situation was created because of the low funding to the institution.
