It all starts like this, ignore one court order, ignore another, before long there will be extra judicial killings and this will be a normal occurrence in this country.
Elias Chipimo jr is right, Rupiah’s passport MUST be given back to him.
As far as we know, Rupiah has not been convicted of anything. He has not even been found with a case to answer yet. But typical of ‘little frightened men’ they are behaving like Rupiah is the head of some rebel terrorist group. To them Rupiah is Osama Bin Laden.
We have seen the PF government ignore court order after court order, that ladies and gentlemen is setting a stage for anarchy. Soon no one will have respect for the judiciary because the Government itself does not respect court orders.
We have been recipients of this Government’s lack of regard for the law. Our Kanyama Rally was cancelled because someone chose to go against a court order. Rupiah Banda’s passport is given to him by the court and someone issues instructions from the executive to disregard that order.
His passport has been cancelled or withdrawn, another court order will be ignored because Rupiah may not have his passport back.
The PF executive has no idea, what it means to separate powers. If they did like we do, they would get out of parliament, get out of the judiciary and limit themselves to the executive. Do they have the ability to do that? Yes. Do they have the will? No. Why? They are obsessed with power, its not enough to have executive power, they are more comfortable holding on to all arms of Government.
We therefore ask for the return of Rupiah’s passport. As a former head of state, we believe he deserves some form of respect as he is not a convicted criminal, so he has to enjoy his rights.
Ultimately when will this cycle of prosecuting former heads of state come to an end? Is it a sign that our laws are not stringent enough to curb this alleged misconduct? If that is the case, let PF address this root cause and not bore us with the persecution like approach to application of the law. That is how it looks, persecution and not prosecution.
Rupiah has nothing to lose, its the image of this country which is being adulterated. All that we had as an image internationally is slowly but surely fading so fast. PF should not behave as though they give rights. They don’t, rights are God given, it is that simple.
