United Party for National Development vice president Canisius Banda says Zambians were running the risk of having a PF driven constitution and not one driven by the people.
Banda said the PF top hierarchy had shouted down some progressive phrases and were being dodgy about the mode of adoption of the constitution.
He said Zambians needed to be vigilante to ensure they got a people driven constitution.
“A people driven constitution is a must given the amount of money spent on the process so far.
“But so far Zambians run the risk of having a PF driven constitution as you have heard some top officials have not supported some progressive clauses in the draft constitution,” Banda said.
“Let us have a people driven and not PF driven constitution we need clarity on the referendum and other important issues.”
He said, “they can ban political parties as you have also heard on the manouvres to extend the presidential term limit.”
The Patriotic had campaigned on the basis of among other things giving Zambians a people driven constitution but has since assuming power gone cold on the a process they so vocally advocated.
PF secretary general Wynter Kabimba has said he would not support the 50 plus one vote, the running mate clause and has not be clear on the referendum.
