The Patriotic Front government has threatened to deregister Non Governmental Organisations that (NGOs) resisting to be recognised by the NGO Board.
Community development deputy minister Jean Kapata has said as long as the NGO Act has been passed into law, government will require all NGOs to be registered with them.
“There will be deregistration for those that will not be registered. it is as simple as that. There is nothing the NGOs can do now because there is already an Act which has been passed,” she said.
Several NGOs have expressed disappointment at the PF government’s move to bully the registration process before they can iron out some issues that remain pending.
The NGOs are supposed to be registered with the NGO Board under the NGO Act number 16 of 2009.
