The Electoral Commission of Zambia has caution the Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation for breaching the Electoral Code when they aired a Patriotic Front political advert that featured Paramount Chief Mpezeni campaigning for the ruling party.
ECZ assistant Public Relations officer Sylvia Bwalya said Mpezeni also went against the constitution when he paraded himself at a Patriotic Front rally campaigning for Lameck Mangani.
Bwalya said other than the political advert’s content being unlawful, it also exceeded the 30 minute limit for a political advert per week.
She said ZNBC management had once again failed the electoral code after being censured barely a month ago.
Bwalya said Mpezeni breached article 129 of the republican constitution that barred traditional leaders from taking part in active politics.
She said Mpezeni should not have taken a political stance during the PF rally and warned the traditional leader to stay out of politics.
Mpezeni during a PF political rally on Saturday campaigned on Lameck Mangani ordering his subjects to vote for the ruling party candidate and ignore the other contestants.
