Supporters of Zambian President Rupiah Banda dance with party flags in the capital Lusaka as he launches his 2011 election campaignCongratulations to the Movement for Multi-Party Democracy, MMD, for retaining the Chipata Central Parliamentary seat in Eastern province caused by the nullification by a compromised Judiciary under acting Chief Justice Lombe Chibesakunda, a so called relative of President Michael Sata.

Congratulations also to the United Party for National Development, UPND, for increasing their numbers in Parliament by scooping the Solwezi East Parliamentary seat in North-Western province and the Kafulafuta Parliamentary seat in Copperbelt province.

These two seats became vacant after two MMD parliamentarians became deeply in love with the ruling Patriotic Front, PF and defected.

We all know what has become of Richard Taima whose timing was in fact mis-timed. For the person who previously held the Kafulafuta seat word has it that he wants to sink his head in the sand.

For Lameck Mangani who has tried so hard to be as close as possible to Sata, the man he was giving all the “vital” information before he was dropped as Minister of Home Affairs by Rupiah Banda, he shall certainly have a rumbling stomach for some days to come. Having to lose twice to the same opponent may surely not be easy to stomach.

Mutolo Phiri is no doubt the most popular of the two and the people of Chipata Central have endorsed him again, nafuti, inspite of what the compromised Supreme Court under Chibesakunda ruled. Yes, the power is with the people not so much the Court as we are always made to believe.

The results of the July 25 Parliamentary by-elections are a heavy defeat and really a big wake up call for the PF who simply ascended to the helm of government through deceit exactly 22 months ago.

Winning just one seat out of four is a sure sign that people have now really, really begun to see through the PF lies. All the promises they made, from restoring the Barotse agreement to putting more money in peoples’ pockets and having a people driven constitution all in ninety days have come to nothing.

Forgetting that good governance is about continuity, Sata and his PF have gone all out to deceive people that all the roads and other infrastructure development projects they are undertaking are their ideas when all they have done is carry over from where Rupiah Banda and the MMD left but of course dubbing some projects as Link Zambia 2,000 or whatever they call it. And they have no shame at all.

They do not even want to acknowledge any good thing that the MMD did while in government even when Sata himself was in that administration for 10 years.

They have tried to paint the MMD black to the extent that they have made some people believe that Rupiah Banda is actually not even allowed out of his house.

That’s the picture they are so proud to paint all because they want the good about the MMD in government erased. Simply, the story to remain untold.
