People’s Democratic Party Leader George Mpombo says the triumph by opposition political parties in three out of four by-elections is a clear sign that the Zambian people are tired of the Patriotic Front government.
Mpombo said the Zambians in three constituencies had taught the Patriotic Front that they cannot take people for granted.
“The victory by the opposition in three out of four by-election is a clear sign that the Zambian people cannot be taken for granted,” Mpombo who campaigned for the PF during the 2011 general elections said.
“In 2016 it is very clear for a government that has spectacularly fallen from grace in such a short period they will be booted out. They are arrogant and do not listen to anybody.”
Mpombo said the opposition needed to unite and consolidate on the victories.
“There are five more by-elections coming on August, 25 and that will be another serious test for the PF.”
And Alliance for a Better Zambia President Father Frank Bwalya said the PF failure in by-elections was just a tip of the iceberg.
“People should begin to prepare because what has happened is just the tip of the iceberg. In 2016 there will be a big surprise,” Father Bwalya said.
Several opposition political parties have welcomed the victory by the UPND and MMD that has seen them take three out of four by-elections.
The UPND won Solwezi East and Kafulafuta with the MMD retaining the Chipata Central seat.
On August 25 Zambians will be treated to another round of by-elections that will see elections held in Malambo, Mkaika, Patauke Central, Itezhi Tezhi and Mulobezi.
