Government ministers have continued to explain away the recent opposition parties’ success in by-elections by clarifying it at every opportunity.
Acting government spokesperson Fackson Shamenda forgot he was on a tour of NAPSA Building in Lusaka on a familiarization tour and veered into politics where he groaned about the wealth of opposition UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema.
“There is this party that is being said to be a rising star. But there is a logic there the people are moving from MMD because they want money to be sponsored by UPND,” he said.
“They are following this money by this one leader who made so much money during the privatization period.”
And in Southern Province the 74 year old Daniel Munkombwe said the natives of Chief Simwatachela’s area that it was not true that the opposition was gaining ground.
Munkombwe said the opposition were ‘just lucky’ to have triumphed in by-elections.
