Outgoing US Ambassador Mark Storella has said Zambian farmers do not benefit from the agriculture business.
Storella who has been an ardent supporter of the PF has said there is enormous potential from the Zambian agriculture sector and that the country should ensure they penetrate the US market.
He said one of the major challenges of that only one percent of Zambia’s agriculture is mechanized compared to the US sector which is 100 per cent mechanized.
Storella said that the level of poverty remains the same and that people are unable to benefit from what they produce.
He further noted that lack of diversification has also affected the growth of Zambia’s agriculture sector since most of it is concentrated on one produce.
He said this when he went to bid farewell to agriculture minister Robert Sichinga to say goodbye.
And Sichinga hoped the US can demonstrate how Zambia can mechanise the agriculture by setting up companies in Zambia.
