Opposition MMD Muchinga Member of Parliament Howard Kunda says he not available for a ministerial position in the Patriotic Front government.
And Kunda says the Patriotic Front should expect more losses in the September 5 by-elections as Zambians felt the government was specializing in taking away money from their pockets.
Featuring on Radio Phoenix’ s Let The People Talk Howard, who is son of former Vice President George Kunda said the MMD had the capacity to bounce back to power in 2016.
Kunda said he would not accept a ministerial job as he was elected by the people of Muchinga Province to provide checks and balances.
“The answer to that is very simple I will not accept that job. I will have to wait until 2016 because the people of Muchinga elected me on an MMD ticket and my role is to provide checks and balances,” said Kunda who is also MMD National Youth Chairperson.
He said it irresponsible to go on causing by-elections when the majority of Zambians were suffering.
Kunda said the PF government was taking away money from people’s pockets as evidenced by the removal of subsidies that had pushed commodity prices up.
“They promised people jobs and more money in their pockets but they have failed but now they are taking money away from people’s pockets,” he said.
“They are buying a bag of maize at K65 and it has remained stuck for a long time, they have increased the cost of doing business with the removal of subsidies and just look at the cost of cement. People cannot build now because the cost is very high.”
He said, “Surely in this era people are exchanging maize with fertilizer, ukukabushanya (bartering). We fought hard for this country surely things can be better.”
Kunda said the PF would not last in power beyond 2016 as they had apart from failure to perform, also split into camps positioning themselves to succeed President Sata.
“In 2016 the PF will be divided because there are camps, there is the Wynter camp, there is the GBM camp and the Lubinda camp. There will be wrangles,” he said.
He also condemned the PF’s plans to petition the Chipata Central seat that they lost to MMD for the second time in two years after twice vanquished Lameck Mangani was advised by his party to petition.
The by-election was caused after Mangani’s request to petition was successful but he once again lost.
“We should end these by-elections once the petitioned seat has been decided because we will be losing time for the elected MP to work,” he said.
Kunda said the PF had built on the MMD Formula One roads projects and were taking credit for it.
He said investor confidence was at its lowest as the environment in the country was unstable.
