The Lusaka City Council has destroyed sachet beer worth about K170, 000.
The beer which is packaged in plastic sachets was destroyed at the city council depot near Zesco head office by officials.
LCC spokesperson Henry Kapata said the council had a meeting with stakeholders whom they told to pack the beer in glasses and not sachets.
He said the phasing out of the plastic sachet beer was agreed by all the interested stakeholders and that the time frame also agreed on has since expired.
Kapata said unfortunately, the manufacturers did not comply with the order and that most of the beer destroyed was coming from the Copperbelt Province.
