Court Stops Chikopa Tribunal

sata-chikopa-zambia-reportsThe Lusaka High Court has stayed the proceedings of the tribunal intended to investigate three judges on allegations of corruption.

This is a matter where Supreme Court judge Philip Musonda, High Court judges Charles Kajimanga and Nigel Mutuna are being probed by a tribunal over professional misconduct.

High Court judge Florence Lengalenga stayed the proceedings in chamber after hearing from both parties.

Defence lawyer Milner Katolo has confirmed saying judge Lengalenga has directed the tribunal not continue until determination of this issue in the High Court.

Katolo said the judge was of the view that if the tribunal proceeds, it will be injustice on his clients to run parallel with the case in court.

The matter comes up on 20th August for hearing, The Chikopa tribunal was appointed by President Sata to probe judges prompted by presidential ally Fred M’membe.

M’membe and director of public prosecutions Mutembo Nchito had complained against the judges after they were found guilty of defaulting over K14 billion (old currency) through a loan they obtained from the Development Bank of Zambia (DBZ) as directors.
