First president Kenneth Kaunda has earned himself a statue at the KK International Airport from his sympathetic Patriotic Front government.
Transport minister Yamfwa Mukanga has said the KK statute is part of the plan for the earmarked facelift of the airport.
Mukanga said when people are landing, they should be able to find it appealing and attractive unlike what is the current situation.
“We want to provide a modern setup and modern equipment so that people exiting will find good facilities.
“That is why as a ministry, we will not compromise on the quality of material that will be used there. We would rather every contractor uses the right material for the job. The use of sub standard should be condemned to the later,” he said.
The project is estimated to cost about K384 million.
