Former Finance Deputy Minister Jonas Shakafuswa says the reported K5 billion budget deficit is a sign of poor economic by the Patriotic Front government.
Shakafuswa said the excuse by Finance Minister Alexander Chikwanda that the deficit had partly been caused by the delay in realizing funds from the removal of subsidies was lame.
He said the PF was directionless in its projects and acted on impulse.
“This issue of the deficit has exposed the PF government as they are the first government to run the economy in such reckless fashion. Other governments were managing without having to over shoot the budget this much,” he said.
“Even the excuse that money from subsidies has not yet been realised is lame.”
Shakafuswa said the PF was spending money outside the budgetary allocation.
“You see they have have been awarding contracts outside the planned expenditure in their quest to appear to be doing something. Let them stick to the budget.”
Government after being cold on the matter has finally opened up and admitted that there is a budget overrun saying it is ‘normal’ although they had denied it all along.
