upnd-lusaka-zambia-reportsThe opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) says it will go ahead with its planned demonstration against acting Chief Justice Lombe Chibesakunda despite police denying them permission to go ahead with their planned action.

Party Deputy Secretary General Kuchunga Simusamba said the demonstration that was planned for Wednesday had been pushed to Friday due to the national mourning.

Simusamba said since the police had refused the UPND permission to hold their demonstration, the party had resolved to go ahead as the police had no justifiable grounds for refusing them.

“We have received correspondence from the police where they are saying that they will not allow us to go ahead with our demonstration but since they have made it clear that they will never allow us, we are going ahead with our plan,” he said.

“The procession will start from the party secretariat and head to the Supreme Court where we will hand over our petition. In view of the national mourning, we will now hold our procession on Friday.”

The last time UPND and supporters staged a demonstration against the government demanding the removal of the Director of Public Prosecution, a heavy handed police battalion was unleashed on them assaulting majority of its youths.
