Patriotic Front Secretary General Wynter Kabimba’s agent Brian Hapunda was yesterday arrested for obtaining money by false pretences to mark part of the journey of his fall from grace.
Hapunda, a former United Party for National Development youth leader, served as political secretary for Southern Province on recommendation from Kabimba and his surrogates. The position was only created for the man the opposition dubbed a “traitor.”
While Hapunda enjoyed immense power in Livingstone where he intimidated literally everyone including court officials such as magistrates, revellers, those in opposition and anyone holding contrary view to the PF elite, it was a matter of time before he fell on a hard rock.
President Michael Sata, whose government had corruptly awarded Hapunda a contract for sign-writing on most Livingstone roads, could not hold any longer when it became apparent his agent was operating beyond the limited scope of the ruling party’s plunder. He fired Hapunda.
And yesterday, the tides continued to shift as the young politician was arrested by Livingstone Police.
Hapunda a close ally of the Patriotic Front media team was locked-up Thursday night following investigations into allegations that he was obtaining money using the party and President Sata’s name.
He is charged for obtaining money by false pretense amounting to K47, 000 (K47 million old currency) and is scheduled to appear in court today.
