President Michael Sata and Robert Mugabe used part of the United Nations World Tourism Conference to launch the Victoria Falls town one stop border post that will only be operational for less than 24 hours.

The two leaders launched the facility on the eve of the closing ceremony with its operation having only been restricted to the duration of the conference.

According to the two leaders the move was meant to ease the flow of traffic into and outside the two countries during the UNWTO.

Zambia Revenue Authority spokesperson Mumbuna Kufekisa said the signing of the agreement has paved way for the establishment of a one-stop border post at Victoria Falls Town, one of the border points linking the two countries.

The agreement between Zambia and Zimbabwe is meant to expedite clearance and create a seamless border for the UNWTO general assembly.

Both commercial traffic and travellers will stop only once at least for the next few hours to complete border formalities from both countries, reducing waiting clearance times from days to hours.

This becomes the second one-stop border post bilateral agreement between Zambia and Zimbabwe. The first one was launched at Chirundu in 2009.
