Two privately owned media firms in Zambia and some Zimbabwean scribes were denied coverage of the closing ceremony of The United Nations World Tourism conference that was held at the Royal Livingstone Hotel.
A Muvi Television crew and journalists from the Daily Nation were hounded out of the conference with their efforts to seek Tourism Minister Sylvia Masebo’s intervention yielding no success.
Muvi TV reporter Oswald Yamba confronted Masebo and after the minister listened to him, she walked out on him and his colleagues.
Yamba said the organizers told them that their names were not on the list of accredited journalists despite having submitted their names as per procedure.
He said it was shocking that during the opening ceremony in Zimbabwe the press were treated with respect while in Zambia the opposite had occurred.
