The Council of Churches in Zambia says it has received with shock the passing on of His Eminence Medardo Cardinal Joseph Mazombwe, the Archbishop Emeritus of Lusaka Archdiocese who died yesterday.
CCZ General Secretary, Suzanne Matale, says it is regrettable that the country has lost such a religious icon who contributed positively to the development of this nation.
Reverend Matale says the late Cardinal Mazombwe contributed positively to the transition from the one party system to a multiparty system and that he will be remembered for his gallantry.
She says Cardinal Mazombwe had a heart for the country, urging all Zambians to come together and pray for his peaceful rest.
Ms Matale adds that the Cardinal was very brave in executing his duties as a man of God and should be remembered for that.
She says Cardinal Mazombwe made Zambians proud in 2010 when the then Pope Benedict 16th created the Emeritus Archbishop of Lusaka Mazombwe, as Zambia’s first indigenous Cardinal in Italy
