Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) executive director Andrew Ntewewe has said President Michael Sata has realised that not everyone around him is his genuine supporter.
Ntewewe said if Sata still had eyes to see, he must be able to tell that not all his followers are with him.
He said in an interview that it was clear that some of Sata’s senior members who started the endorsements had realised that t was not worthwhile to support a man who is failing in his duties.
Ntewewe said the squabbles that had characterized, where opposing factions in the ruling party resorted to violence showed that the PF had lost grip on power because of their differences.
He said Sata was known to be a man of action but his action oriented behaviour had abandoned him and it was lacking in large proportions.
He said Sata’s continuous quietness on serious national matters had come under question.
Ntewewe said squabbles in the PF were not new since they started a long time ago and Sata should have nipped the fights in the bud earlier.
He said it was too late now for Sata to stop the fights in the PF because his voice would not be heard by any of the fighting.
“The differences and fighting in the ruling party goes to show that the PF does not have the grip on governance f the country. This is true because top cabinet ministers are against their own leadership. Why has the matter generated so much debate,” he said.
Ntewewe said the squabbles in the PF were because some members had doubts about Sata’s fitness and abilities to govern Zambia beyond 2016.
He said it was sad that the ruling party did not want to find democratic and mature means of resolving their differences.
He said that the wrangles in the PF also gave an impression that the ruling was not able to deliver peace, unity and stability, which were ingredients for development.
Ntewewe said it Justice Minister Wynter Kabimba and his counterpart from Defence Geoffrey Mwamba had always been at each other’s throat while Sata observed without any action.
“It expresses a lot about their capability to rule. This kind of leadership does not inspire. It is sad for Sata to continue keeping quiet. The quietness speaks to encourage illegality because according to the Ministerial Code of Conduct, ministers are not allowed to fight n public openly. Their disagreements are contrary to the code of conduct,” he said.
Ntewewe said civil society organisations (CSOs) had been speaking about the violent nature of the PF and that the ruling party must respect the republican constitution that people ought to be respect even when they were in the minority.
He said the abrupt removal of subsidies on maize and fuel was an abuse of the people while CSOs were subjected to violence and Sata remained quiet.
There have been differences among PF members over the current debate for Sata to be the party’s sole candidate during the 2016 general elections.
Recently, one of the opposing factions descended on their opponents at Lusaka’s Northmead Basic School where a free for all punch ensued which resulted the damage of school property.
One PF member had been arrested and charged by the police and will before a magistrate court soon.
