The Patriotic Front government has appealed the decision by the High Court to allow Dora Silya and two others from recontesting their seats which were nullified by the courts of law.
Attorney General Mumba Malila filed the appeal in the Supreme Court saying High Court judge Mungeni Mulenga erred when she quashed the Electoral Comission’s decision to bar the trio from contesting.
Malila stated that Judge Mulenga erred by not giving effect to the statement from the judiciary.
The trio MMD’s Dora Siliya of Petauke Central, UPND’s Maxwell Mwale of Malambo constituency and Hastings Sililo of Mulobezi were on September, 3 granted judicial review by the Lusaka
High Court and allowed to re-contest their seats.
Subsequently the Electoral Commission of Zambia set September, 26 as the day for the polls with nominations having been put on September, 10.
The Patriotic Front is determined to see former ministers Mwale and Siliya from bouncing back to parliament having applied all tricks to block their candidature.
