The Zambia National Union of Teachers has confirmed that government has struck off responsibility allowance for some teachers.
ZNUT general secretary Newman Bubala said the government had removed responsibility for certificate holders as the allowance had put them at par with diploma holders who also equally poorly paid.
Bubala said the certificate holders will only be restored to their former position once the diploma holders received an increase.
“Yes government has removed responsibilty allowance for certificate holders because they were getting the same with diploma holders. Government has said they will reinstate the allowance for
certificate holders once those with diplomas had received an increment,” Bubala said.
Government’s insistence on reducing or scrapping off allowances like double class, rural harship and responsibilty has been a cause for apprehension on the teaching fraternity.
