United Party for National Development (UPND) vice president Richard Kapita says the Patriotic Front government must brace itself for more losses in by-elections as evidenced by their recent record at polls.
Kapita said the PF would now think twice before inducing by-elections or poaching opposition MPs.
“It seems the PF has underestimated the people’s loath of induced by-elections and those that cause them. All along Zambians have been complaining about by elections and senseless defections but the PF has rendered a deaf ear and now the people of Mkaika have deliverered their judgement on the matter,” he said.
“The PF should brace themselves for more losses because the people are angry with them. They promise more jobs but the only jobs they are providing for digging trenches, they promised more money in people’s pockets but they removed subsidies taking away money from people’s pockets.”
Kapita said what would happen when the Mulobezi, Petauke and Malambo by-elections was an open secret.
“Look at how much time and resources they have used to fight our candidates in Mulobezi, Malambo and the MMD’s Dora Siliya. It tells you the story that they will lose and are panicking,” he said.
The PF has lost four of the last five by-elections having only won in Mkushi North after being defeated in Solwezi East, Kafulafuta, Chipata Central and now Mkaika where they were handed a humiliating defeat.
