The Copperbelt Patriotic Front lower organs have moved to control the more powers in deciding who makes the party’s candidature in the 2016 general elections.
At a consultative meeting held at Trade Fair Grounds for the Copperbelt region the ward, district constituency, provincial officials said they would not tolerate candidates imposed on them by the national leadership.
According to a source at the meeting the province had identified MPs that they would not be accepted to recontest their seats in the 2016 elections.
“We are not happy with some MPs here on the Copperbelt as the public has come to know. There are issues with the MP here Mr Shamenda the man rarely comes here and was not the choice of the locals, and Mr Kazabu (Luxon) has problems connecting with the people, Wilbur Simuusa is also not a favourable candidate for Nchanga as the electorates think he has not done enough,” said an insider.
“Our position is that the national leadership should not impose some of these people on us because we are on the ground and know who the popular candidates are. Some of these people only won because they were using the PF ticket and on their own they cannot win. So come 2016 we will weed them out.”
And closing the one day meeting Copperbelt Minister Mwenya Musenge confirmed that the lower organs had demanded a greater say in the selection of candidates.
The resolution was included in the 18 that were read out at the end of the meeting.
