Congolese traders at the border town of Chililabombwe and Kasumbalesa had to flee for their lives as the Zambian truckers and residents turned on them following the shooting of a Zimbabwean driver by Congolese soldiers in the neighbouring country.
Zimbabwean driver Patrick Mulisi of CDC Logistics Trucking Company was shot in both legs by suspected soldiers and once news filtered through to the border the truckers ran riot grounding business to a standstill with the border sealed off.
Congolese traders were beaten up and their merchandise set ablaze as police watched helplessly.
Drivers from other SADC countries joined in the riot and demanded a lasting solution to the volatile situation in the DRC where they endure harassment and thefts.
