zambia-copper-chinaThe Jesuit Centre for Theological Reflection says the dwindling exports by Zambia should worry the country.

Programmes Manager Brian Banda said the reported reduction on exports in the case of Egypt which was used as a reference point from 385 million tonnes to just nine million was a worrying trend.

He said there was need for the country to give more than lip service to the gospel of value addition.

Banda said with fragile Copper prices, the country needed to spread its export base to non-traditional export products.

Copper, Zambia’s traditional export, has been unstable on the international market threatening Zambia’s economic base.
