Lubansenshi Constituency Independent Member of Parliament Patrick Mucheleka says he does not expect President Michael Sata to deliver a people driven constitution as he is comfortable with the excessive powers granted to him by the constitution.
Mucheleka said having a people driven constitution will only be achieved if Zambians rise up against the political order that has perpetually deprived the citizenry of a people driven constitution.
“We do not expect President Sata to deliver a people driven constitution because he is happy with the excessive powers that the constitution awards him,” he said.
“Each time Zambians have waited upon him to show direction on the delivery of the constitution he has been shifting goal posts. All that is because he is happy with the status quo, it will be up to the Zambian people to rise to claim their right to a constitution that they desire.”
Mucheleka said, “There is no guarantee that he will deliver the final draft constitution by December 31 as he promised during his address to parliament.”
