The United Party for National Development has played down the mystery surrounding the party’s Vice President Canicius Banda’s meeting with President Michael Sata.
UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema said he was aware of the details of the meeting between Dr Banda and President Sata although the source was not his deputy.
He said that the UPND structures will deal with the matter involving the vice president who had recently quit the MMD.
“The UPND management committee and structures will deal with the matter properly,” he said.
“I know about the details of that meeting myself because there are various sources of getting information but he also told you himself that he explained his meeting to the membership.”
The meeting between Banda and President Sata only leaked after it had taken place and this has caused apprehension in the UPND structures.
Dr Banda has said he met President Sata to discuss national matters although traditionally opposition members that secretly sneak into State House have been known to seal individual pacts without their party blessings.
The treacherous Dr Banda miserably failed to win the Mandevu seat in 2011 when he challenged Jean Kapata on the MMD ticket.
