The Alliance for Democracy and Development says the discharge of the 54 Barotseland activists amounts to abuse of the court system by the Director of Prosecution who has taken on several cases that have either been dropped or amended.
ADD President Charles Milupi said he believed that the activists were arrested on trumped up charges and shackled in prison for four months.
“The release of the Barotse activists is a clear case of the abuse of the court process. We are of the view that there was no treason committed but they were locked up for four months,” Milupi said.
“It illustrates abuse of the court system, human rights and very unjust. It shows that you can just go and arrest people and slap them with the highest charge.”
Milupi said the Director of Prosecutions went to court without having a solid case against the Barotse activists.
Observers accuse Mutembo Nchito of being clueless of his duties and is making serious mistakes rendering the criminal justice system in the country a mockery.
Nchito is a member of the cartel that hold President Michael Sata hostage alongside his partner Fred M’membe. They decide who and how to prosecute at a given stage depending on their opponent’s political standing.
