The University Teaching Hospital has played down the impact on the over 200 nurses are on strike, saying operations are normal.
Public Relations Manager Mwenya Mulenga said the institution that even with a full staff operates under the strain of under staff-(ment) was operating normally.
Mulenga said nurses on contract and those in management had moved to fill the void.
“The dismissal of nurses has not affected the operation of UTH because we have nurses on contract and those in senior management who are working plus the students who are also helping out,” he said.
“Right now we are operating normally.
Government has fired over 200 nurses at the University Teaching Hospital and attempts to muffle the impact have been played up following a public outcry.
The nurses were fired for demanding the harmonization of the disparities in the salary structure and also a demand for a 100% salary increment.
