The opposition Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) has called for massive demonstrations against the Patriotic Front government’s delay in giving Zambians a people driven constitution.
FDD spokesperson Antonio Mwanza said President Sata should immediately constitute a referendum commission and give the people a constitution they have long fought for.
The constitution making process has been thrown in turmoil following President Sata’s statement that he was for amendments to the old constitution and not a complete overhaul as set out in the draft constitution.
“We want to remind the PF and the President that they promised the people of Zambia a people driven constitution and that this is not negotiable,” Mwanza said.
“We are going to hold demonstrations to ensure that Zambians get the constitution that they desire. The president should constitute a referendum commission and ensure that resources for the referendum are allocated.”
