The Millers Association of Zambia say mealie meal prices are expected to further go up next year owing to the poor handling of the input support programme.
Association President Allan Sakala said small scale farmers who were the core of the Zambian agriculture system have been thrown off balance by poor delivery of inputs.
Sakala said indicators were that mealie prices were already on an upward trajectory with last year’s stock being depleted.
“The situation for famers is not healthy at the moment because as you know they are facing issues of none payment of money for the maize supplied and now even preparations for next year are in jeopardy as inputs have not been delivered,” he said.
